Mars Rover Phoenix... Dead
NOVEMBER 11, 2008 TAGS:
On May 25, 2007, the Mars Rover Phoenix touched down on the lonely Martian landscape and began its mission to sift, sort, test and analyze Mars’ surface. Like a mobile chemistry lab, Phoenix toiled away for a year and half. As the Martian winter approaches, Phoenix has lost sunlight, it's solar lifeblood, and has sadly gone silent. Chief among Phoenix's accomplishments was verifying that ice exists on Mars' surface. Where there is ice, perhaps there was once water. And where there was water, perhaps there was life.
Luckily, NASA scientists still have tera-bytes of data to process from Phoenix’s efforts, and we’ll be hearing about it’s far-flung efforts for years to come.
