Tell Us What You Think

DECEMBER 1, 2007        TAGS: BEST OF         COMMENTS (12)
As 2007 winds to a close, we, at Obit, want to hear your thoughts about how we've done since we launched on April 1st.

What do you like about our stories and our range of coverage? What would you like to see on our site? And how can we make the site better from a viewer's point-of-view.

2008 will be an exciting new year for Obit, and your thoughts about how we can make our unique magazine even better will help us chime in the New Year on a high note.

You can either add a remark or email us directly at info@obit-mag.com.

Thanks and Happy Holidays!

'The writing is wonderful. The type is sometimes hard to read, perhaps the color or the spacing is the problem.' [Report Comment]

'"Obit Speaks" is my favorite part of the site. The stories are diverse and engaging, and the artwork pulls you in. Keep up the good work!' [Report Comment]

'I agree with Joyce Gemperlein: Please date the articles. It's confusing coming in from a search engine and not knowing whether the story is current or when it occurred. Thanks!' [Report Comment]

'The only thing I can say is: More, more, more! The pieces are smart and sharp, the mix of stories and obituaries and history pieces is really great. I can't wait to see it on paper, too. It's an amazing idea.' [Report Comment]

'I write for this site. Still, I have an opinion! I find obit-mag.com literate, thoughtful and thought-provoking. As a writer, I sooo appreciate that it has actual editors, who do a great job making stories better, catching problems large and small and acting like "old-fashioned" journalists rather than functioning only as button-pushers, plopping anything that is sent in onto the site -- even with grammar and spelling errors -- as so many websites do these days, contributing to the downfall of the English language. The site isn't silly, but has a sense of humor when called for. It's not morose, but treats the subject of death as history, sociology and anthropology. Which, of course, those of us who have been reading obits for decades have known for a long time. I agree with the scrolling difficulties mentioned above. I also agree with the reader previously who says that reading about death on obit-mag is "uplifting" and calming for some reason, especially to those of us who would rather deny that death exists. And the search engine doesn't always get me what I know is in there somewhere. I think that the date of the death being written about should always be in the story, and sometimes it isn't. I'd like to see more stories that discuss/explore death in cultures other than the Anglo-Protestant etc. category. I also wonder about the layout of the site, in which one story and one story only pops up (yes, I know there is standing 'furniture' there every time, but I mean aside from that.) It's a vertical layout, as I see it; whereas, other sites give you several or more stories to choose from when you click on the home page. I suppose this is a matter of how many new stories are filed every day, and maybe such a layout isn't feasible yet. But, being greedy, I like to look at a dessert cart so that I can choose rather than being presented with a wedge of apple pie on a small plate -- no matter that the pie is gorgeous, my favorite treat, and obviously delicious. And I wonder if there is a way to have a layout that contains a few "shorts," trivia or something that's a quick take.' [Report Comment]

'Your site is so special! I've never seen anything like this site...has anybody?? The writers, especially some of them, are unbelievably clever. They have managed to make a read-it-and-weep subject and elevate it to high entertainment...while still being moving. I love its uniqueness! Keep it going, please!' [Report Comment]

'I love the stories. I do wish I didn't have to scroll so much. I visit every few days and there's a lot to scroll through to catch up. But, please keep up the good work, Obit. The writing and the art are wonderful, and as the previous remarker noted, it's uplifting even though the central theme is death.' [Report Comment]
