Oscar Mayer was a Bavarian-born sausage entrepreneur whose liverwurst and bratwurst was a hit with Chicago?s German community at the turn of the 20th century. His empire of meat grew as he branded his sausages culminating in the jingle, ?I wish I were an Oscar Meyer Wiener,? and the imfamous weiner-mobile. Oscar Mayer died on March 11, 1955.

Charles Sumner was a lawyer and Senator from Massachusetts who was a fiery anti-slavery orator and was famously beaten on the floor of the Senate by a freshman Congressman whose uncle Sumner had defamed in a speech. Sumner survived the attack and died on March 11, 1874.
