Re: Donating a mother's stuff: I can understand how overwhelming your situation must be. I had much the same problem when my mother died. I donated most of her belongings to a local thrift shop that supported a favorite charity. Her computer went to a friend who needed one, and her huge stash of yarn and knitting/crocheting supplies (a full-size packing company wardrobe box!) went to another friend's mother. Both were delighted, and I felt like I was passing on Mom's legacies in a way, rather than just "getting rid of stuff." One caution I want to make: be careful in discarding old papers. They may be pack-rat junk, but some might be useful (if not valuable). My grandmother's house and its contents were sold in order to put her into a supervised care facility. My grandfather's genealogical research, and carbon copies of his personal correspondence (he typed all of his letters, even to friends and relatives) were all sent to a landfill somewhere. I'd give anything to have them back!
